Graphic Design Job Scams

Within this month, I’ve been targeted by 2 to 3 different scams, pretending to be job offers. In the first Phishing Scam, they promised a job interview. They claim to have seen my profile on indeed and was impressed. I went through an hour interview in which they asked me about my work experience and how I handle certain issues. By the end of the interview, they asked for banking information. But he was the kicker the interview was done in text. Of course I found this weird but at the moment the price tag and my eagerness combined took down my common sense.

The second Scam was another AI pretending to be a prospective client that stumbled upon my website and liked it so much so they put my website into the email. Are you seeing a common thread with each email Scam?In the correspondenceThey included what was needed for each part of the project and a budget the part towards the end they requested my personal information as usual. They included what was needed for each part of the project and a budget towards the end they requested my personal information as usual They write just enough information so that you will be confident that they are legitimate.

The thing is, as a designer is you have to look deeper with each and every email and outreach. This is a problem because sometimes it is hard to tell the difference between real and fake. Some clients may not have the luxury of looking official. I always ask to meet over the phone or meet in person or hey! let’s do a video call.

The things to look out for is the fact that once you ask to have a personal meeting, they may deflect and not answer back. They may ignore what you just said, and begin asking for information like your address your full name your ZIP Code and different information. Sometimes when you see the email, for instance your username will be used because they’re using an AI to gather information from your email to get to you. I almost got caught by three.

I’m in the season where freelance jobs are slow and I’m leaning heavily onto my day job. Don’t fall pray to someone promising $70 an hour be smart and watch out. My final advice check the email for weirdly placed dots or periods. Even phone calls can be faked. I just spoke to a virtual interviewer for staffing agency so we have to be extra vigilant from now on. happy hunting.
